Quickie: I’m back at school, I’m pretty much better; I spent like six hours on Saturday watching a marathon of “America’s Next Top Model.” Bad idea. I have an insane amount of homework, but that’s what you get when you miss three classes in a row right around midterm. But the Oscars are on tonight, so those obviously take top priority over everything else in life. My predictions go like this:
Best Picture — It’s between “Million Dollar Baby” and “The Aviator,” but I’m guessing “The Aviator,” because I feel like the Academy will want to recognize it even though it will probably be overshadowed in every other category.
Best Actor — Jamie Foxx.
Best Actress — Hilary Swank
Best Director — Here again, it’s between Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorcese. It’s tough to call. They’re both old white men. Probably Eastwood, although Scorcese has yet to win an Oscar.
Best Supporting Actress — I guess I’ll say Cate Blanchett, even though I’d rather see any of the others win. I feel like if Cate wins, it will be because voters feel they’re somehow supporting Katherine Hepburn, the role she plays.
Best Supporting Actor — C’mon, Morgan Freeman! I just watched “Robin Hood” and have re-fallen in love with him. Although how cool would it be to have Lowell from “Wings” (Thomas Haden Church) win an Oscar?
Those are the biggies…but because I’m a nerd, I’m super into the screenwriting categories as well. I’m pulling for “Before Sunset” although it will never happen, and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” because Charlie Kaufman is so unique.
Yep. I’m a geek.
